In October 2021, the Government of New Brunswick amended the Designated Materials Regulation under the Clean Environment Act  to establish an extended producer responsibility program for packaging and paper in the province. The Regulation states that producers resident in Canada whose packaging and/or paper is supplied to New Brunswick consumers are responsible for managing this material.

Recycle NB is the agency responsible for designated materials in New Brunswick and will oversee the packaging and paper products program. 

Circular Materials, the producer responsibility organization in New Brunswick, submitted a Stewardship Plan in October 2022 and is launching the New Brunswick program on November 1, 2023.
